The ToneWoodAmp story

Hi, we’re Ofer & Helene.

What began as an experiment at home became our family business, bringing a new acoustic experience to thousands of guitarists around the world.

Meet Ofer & Helene

Ofer is a guitarist, sound engineer and inventor. Helene is a people person, with a gift for building relationships and bringing musicians together.

Different backgrounds. Complementary strengths. Together, they built a life in Phoenix, Arizona, and eventually a business around an idea they couldn’t let go.

Originally from Israel, Ofer brought his experience in sound engineering and a lifelong curiosity about how things work. Helene, from the United States, brought the connection to people that would become the heart of the ToneWoodAmp community.

Life together, with a guitar never far away.

Ofer’s big question

Ofer loved the freedom of an acoustic guitar. But adding reverb, delay or other effects usually meant plugging into more gear.

He began exploring a different possibility: send effects into the back of the guitar while the strings drive the top naturally. The wood and soundhole would bring both sounds together.

The first experiments involved electronics, improvised parts and plenty of trial and error. They were rough, but they proved something extraordinary: effects could come straight from the guitar’s own body. Ofer kept refining the design until other players could experience it for themselves.

The first time musicians heard it

At Summer NAMM in Nashville, Ofer and Helene put the invention into musicians’ hands. Players could hear reverb and delay, but there was no amplifier behind them.

Larry Mitchell was an early supporter, encouraging other musicians to try it. The sound started its own conversation.

Our first Kickstarter

Ofer and Helene brought ToneWoodAmp to Kickstarter. Backers around the world believed in the possibility of a new acoustic experience and helped turn the prototype into a product.

For a small family business, that support changed everything.

Development became manufacturing, and the first units began reaching backers in 2015. The people who took a chance on the original ToneWoodAmp became the beginning of a worldwide community.

A growing family of players

Helene kept building connections with artists and everyday players. Performances, recordings and living-room videos brought new people into the ToneWoodAmp family.

The feedback that mattered most was simple: people wanted to pick up their guitars more often. Thousands of players have made ToneWoodAmp part of their music.

From songwriters and touring artists to people playing for the sheer joy of it, the community kept finding new ways to use the sound. Ofer and Helene listened, shared their music and took that feedback back to the workbench.

Introducing TONEWOODAMP2

A decade of ideas and player feedback helped shape ToneWoodAmp2. The next generation launched on Kickstarter in October 2024 and reached players in 2025.

Smaller, rechargeable and controlled with a free app, it blends up to four effects at once. The original idea remains: bring more possibility to the guitar you already love.

ToneWoodAmp2 adds deeper sound control, presets and tools for live performance. Ofer kept the direct acoustic experience at its heart while building more flexibility around the way guitarists actually play.

Still made in Phoenix. Still family owned.

ToneWoodAmp is still a family business, based in Phoenix, Arizona, where our products are made.

Ofer is still inventing. Helene is still connecting with players. And our small team is still working towards the same thing: helping you find something new in the instrument you love.
